How likely are you to have a heart attack in the next 10 years?
This tool gives an idea of how likely you are to experience a coronary heart disease (CHD) event - a heart attack (MI) or persistent angina - in the next 10 years. CHD occurs when the coronary arteries become narrowed or clogged and can't supply enough blood to the heart.
You need to know your total cholesterol level and your HDL ('good' cholesterol) level to complete this test. Your physician can arrange a blood test to provide these values.
You should use mg/dL units for both of these levels. To convert your cholesterol levels from mmol/L to mg/dL multiply by 0.02586.
This test is based on American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, and Framingham Study recommendations (see Grundy SM, Pasternak R, Greenland P, et al. Circulation 1999;100:1481-1492)
